Changing or Adding MFA Methods (Microsoft 365)

Summary

This article explains how to update, add, or change your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) methods for your CCS account.

You may need to do this if:

  • You get a new phone
  • Your phone number changes
  • You want to add a backup authentication method

⚠️ Important

  • You must have access to an existing MFA method to make changes
  • If you cannot access any existing method, contact the CCS Help Desk
  • Direct Link: aka.ms/mysecurityinfo

💻 Step 1: Sign In to Your Account

  1. Go to: 👉 https://login.microsoftonline.com
  2. Sign in with your CCS email and password
  3. Complete your MFA verification if prompted

⚙️ Step 2: Open Security Settings

  1. Click your profile icon (top right corner)
  2. Select View AccountUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  3. Click Security InfoUploaded Image (Thumbnail)

Step 3: Add a New Sign-in Method

  1. Click + Add sign-in methodUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  2. Choose a method:Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
    • Microsoft Authenticator (recommended)
    • Phone (text or call)
  3. Click Add

📱 Option A: Set Up Microsoft Authenticator (Recommended)

  1. On your phone:
    • Download Microsoft Authenticator
  2. Open the app
  3. Tap + (Add Account)Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  4. Select Work or School Account
  5. Tap Scan QR Code

🔗 Link the App

  1. On your computer, click NextUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  2. Scan the QR code with your phoneUploaded Image (Thumbnail)

✅ Confirm Setup

  1. Enter or match the number shown
  2. Click NextUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  3. Click DoneUploaded Image (Thumbnail)

📞 Option B: Set Up Phone Verification

  1. Enter your phone number
  2. Choose:Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
    • 📩 Text me a code
    • 📞 Call me
  3. Click Next

🔢 Text Option

  • Enter the 6-digit code sent to your phoneUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  • Click Next

☎️ Call Option

  • Answer the call from Microsoft
  • Press # (pound key) when prompted

✅ Finish

  • Click DoneUploaded Image (Thumbnail)

🔄 Managing Existing Methods

From the Security Info page, you can:

  • Add additional methods
  • Remove old devices or phone numbers
  • Change your default sign-in method

Users can manage their authentication methods directly from this page at any time 


Best Practice

  • Use Microsoft Authenticator as your primary method
  • Add at least one backup method (like phone)
  • Remove outdated devices or numbers

Troubleshooting

  • Got a new phone? → Add the new device, then remove the old one
  • Not receiving codes? → Verify your phone number and signal
  • Lost access to all methods? → Contact CCS Help Desk
