🎯 Purpose

CCS accounts provide secure access to internal systems, applications, and resources for staff and students. These accounts are managed through both cloud-based identity platforms and on-premises Active Directory infrastructure to ensure flexibility and security.

Username Format:

  • Email/UPN: username@columbus.k12.oh.us
  • Domain: ccs\username or username@ccs.local
  • SAM Account: username

👥 Account Types

  • Staff Accounts: Used by teachers, administrators, and support personnel. These accounts are subject to stricter password and lockout policies to protect sensitive data.
  • Student Accounts: Designed for ease of access and learning continuity. These accounts follow a more lenient lockout policy to minimize disruptions.

🔐 Authentication & Access

  • Single Sign-On (SSO): Staff accounts use SSO for seamless access to cloud services like Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive.

🔑 Password Policy

Staff Accounts:

  • Minimum length: 8 characters
  • Complexity: Required
  • History: Last 10 passwords remembered
  • Expiration: Every 90 days

Student Accounts:

  • Follows traditional domain policy
  • Typically less restrictive to support classroom access
  • Default password format ccsMM-DD-YYYY with MM-DD-YYYY being the student birthday.

🛠️ Account Recovery

  • Self-Service Password Reset: Available for staff to reduce Help Desk dependency.
  • Help Desk Support: Available for persistent lockouts or account issues.
