🎯 Purpose
CCS accounts provide secure access to internal systems, applications, and resources for staff and students. These accounts are managed through both cloud-based identity platforms and on-premises Active Directory infrastructure to ensure flexibility and security.
Username Format:
- Email/UPN: username@columbus.k12.oh.us
- Domain: ccs\username or username@ccs.local
- SAM Account: username
👥 Account Types
- Staff Accounts: Used by teachers, administrators, and support personnel. These accounts are subject to stricter password and lockout policies to protect sensitive data.
- Student Accounts: Designed for ease of access and learning continuity. These accounts follow a more lenient lockout policy to minimize disruptions.
🔐 Authentication & Access
- Single Sign-On (SSO): Staff accounts use SSO for seamless access to cloud services like Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive.

🔑 Password Policy
Staff Accounts:
- Minimum length: 8 characters
- Complexity: Required
- History: Last 10 passwords remembered
- Expiration: Every 90 days
Student Accounts:
- Follows traditional domain policy
- Typically less restrictive to support classroom access
- Default password format ccsMM-DD-YYYY with MM-DD-YYYY being the student birthday.
🛠️ Account Recovery
- Self-Service Password Reset: Available for staff to reduce Help Desk dependency.
- Help Desk Support: Available for persistent lockouts or account issues.
