Purpose
This article explains where files must be saved to be protected by district backups.
If a file isn’t stored in an approved location, IT may not be able to recover it if it’s deleted, lost, or damaged.
Saving files in the right place helps protect your work and allows IT to assist when something goes wrong.

Safe Places to Save Files (Automatically Backed Up)
Files saved in these locations are protected and may be recoverable by IT:
π Q Drive (My Documents)
π« Site Shares
βοΈ Microsoft OneDrive
π Microsoft SharePoint
β Not Safe for Important Files (Not Backed Up)
Do not store important work in these locations:
- Downloads folder
- Desktop
- USB flash drives
- External hard drives
- Personal cloud storage
- Google Drive
β οΈ Files saved in these locations may be permanently lost and cannot be restored by IT.

IT may be able to help if the file was saved in a safe, backedβup location.

When contacting IT, please include:
- File name (or best guess)
- Where it was saved
- When it was last correct
- What happened (deleted, overwritten, missing, etc.)

Remember
β Save important work in Q Drive, OneDrive, SharePoint, or Site Shares
β Don’t rely on Desktop, Downloads, or USB drives for storage
β Report missing files as soon as possible—the sooner IT knows, the better the chance of recovery
