Group Join (Self-Service)

Go to the My Groups Site: Open a browser and visit: https://myaccount.microsoft.com/groups/search

Sign in: Use your work or school account if prompted.

Search for the group: Click the search bar to type the name of the group you want to join. For example: "Dominion" to find the Dominion Middle School Staff M365 group.

Select Group: Click the group from the search results.

Click "Join group": If the group allows self-service joining, you'll see a join group button. Click it and provide a justification. Then click submit and you're all set!  See Notes below if you need to add a justification.

  • Some groups allow instant join, while others require owner approval and a justification explaining why you need access.
  • Approval is usually required for groups containing sensitive data, licensed apps, or role-based access.
  • When requesting access, provide a clear, specific justification to speed up approval.
  • If denied, it’s often because the group is role‑restricted, department‑specific, or you already have access through another group.
  • Users request access from My Groups or the Entra portal, where group owners review and approve/deny requests.
  • For admins/owners: keeping descriptions updated and watching for pending requests helps reduce confusion.
