Lenovo Pen Distribution and Responsibility

Each teacher will receive one Lenovo Digital Pen at the time their device is deployed. Please be aware that the IT Department is not responsible for misplaced Lenovo Pens. If a pen is lost or misplaced, the IT Department will not provide a replacement. Teachers are responsible for keeping track of and securing their own Lenovo Pen.

Start using the pen

  1. Just write on the touchscreen — no pairing needed for basic inking.
  2. Open a pen‑friendly app: Microsoft Whiteboard or OneNote are great for lessons.

Annotate what’s on the screen (two easy options)

  1. In any app/web page: press Windows + Shift + S → choose area → use Quick Markup to draw/highlight right on the screen; Save/Copy when done.
  2. In Microsoft Edge: open any web page or PDF → use Web capture (Ctrl+Shift+S) or the toolbar → draw/highlight and save the capture.

Charge the pen (USB‑C)

  1. Remove the pen’s cap to reveal the USB‑C port.
  2. Plug into your laptop’s USB‑C or a phone charger. LED: blinking amber = low, solid amber = charging, solid white = full (≈2 hours).

Classroom ideas

  1. Use Whiteboard to solve problems live; invite students to the device in tablet mode.
  2. In Edge, open an online article or worksheet and annotate key points as you discuss.
  3. Capture and mark up any app window with Windows + Shift + S when you need quick arrows/highlights.

Helpful Windows pen features

  1. Turn on the Pen menu icon: Settings → Personalization → Taskbar → Taskbar corner icons → Pen menu (On).
  2. Customize the Pen menu shortcuts (e.g., Whiteboard, Snipping Tool, Journal) for one‑tap access.

  2. Under System tray icons, enable Pen Menu.

You'll then see the Pen icon in the taskbar system tray.

To open the pen menu, tap the Pen icon.

Add or remove shortcuts

You can add up to four apps as shortcuts to your pen menu.

  1. Select the pen menu in the corner of the taskbar.
  2. When the pen menu appears, select Settings then Edit pen menu.
  3. To remove an app from your pen menu, select the remove icon next to the app in the list of pinned apps.
  4. To add an app to an available slot on your pen menu, scroll to find the app in the list of suggested apps or all apps. Then select the add icon next to the app.

Tip: You can only pin four apps to the pen menu. You can't add an app if four apps are already pinned.
