Graymail

Summary

Information on Graymail an email cleanup application.

Body

What is Graymail? It refers to the type of email that falls into a gray area between spam and legitimate messages. Unlike spam, which is often unsolicited and sent in bulk, graymail consists of emails that are usually solicited but not necessarily wanted or needed. This category includes newsletters, promotional offers, and updates from companies or organizations with which you’ve previously interacted.

What is Spam? Spam is unsolicited junk email sent in bulk. Most spam messages are sent with commercial interests in mind, but some more nefarious spam messages can include malware or phishing attempts.

Why We Need to Manage Graymail:

  1. Clutter and Productivity
  2. Attention and Focus
  3. Storage Management
  4. Security and Privacy
  5. Email Organization

If you are added to this group, we will be routing any detected spam to a hidden folder and any detected graymail to the Promotions folder. Outlook will automatically create this folder.

If you are missing a message, check to see if it is in the Promotions folder. If you see messages in the Promotions folder that you wish to see in your Inbox, you may simply drag-and-drop them to the Inbox. The inverse is also true: moving a message from the Inbox to the Promotions folder will filter future messages from the sender to the Promotions folder.

Moving messages between your Promotions and Inbox folders will allow us to learn your graymail preferences and customize your Inbox experience.

Note:

*We only track a message from Outlook for 7 days (from the time a message is received by users), so messages that are older than 7 days aren’t tracked, and will not be subject to the end user personalization feature.

*This graymail feature is limited to a subset of users.
