A-B Drop Explanation

Some rooms in CCS buildings may contain multiple network drops, labelled "A" and "B". These are referred to as "A-B drops", and are used to extend network connectivity from one area of the room to another.

A-B drops do NOT increase the number of available network connections in a room. Instead, they allow the connections to be used in various physical locations.

Imagine a straight line with 3 three points, like so:

o-----o-----o

The line represents a single network connection. The leftmost point is the "main drop", which is cabled to a network switch in a technology closet. The middle point represents the A-side, and the rightmost point represents the B-side. Users can either connect to the main drop, or to the B-side. The A-side is only used to extend the connection from the main drop to the B-side; devices should never connect to the A-side drop.
